Fabric
Nappies are made from lots of different materials. There are lots of different fabrics to choose from, namely. Cotton, bamboo, hemp, microfiber, fleece and wool. With so much choice, it’s easier to pick the fabric that’s best for you and your baby, as each fabric has its own benefits, or you can mix and match.
Cotton: It is best to choose organic cotton if available as it benefits the environment. Cotton is soft, very absorbent, and dries very quickly.
Bamboo: Same as before, if you can choose organic bamboo, if available for environmental reasons. Bamboo doesn’t use as many chemicals as cotton does to be grown. Bamboo fabric is more absorbent than cotton by approximately 40 %. It is a very soft fabric, but can take longer to dry.
Hemp: Is an environmentally friendly material. Hemp is very soft and very absorbent which makes it great to use for booster and night time nappies. With it being a more absorbent material it takes longer to dry than some of the other fabrics.
Microfiber: Is a man made synthetic material, which is mainly used for boosters as it very absorbent and quick drying. Microfiber is great if you would have trouble getting your nappies dry, or for emergencies!
Fleece: Is mainly used to make the liners and pocket nappies. It is very soft, making it one of the best materials to have next to your baby’s skin. It is great at being a stay-dry barrier, therefore keeping the babies skin drier and helping to prevent sore bottoms
Wool: Is used in wraps, they are great for babies with extra sensitive skin as the wool is knitted into the wraps which are breathable and naturally waterproof.
